Nayanathara is one of the leading film actresses in the South Indian film industry, noted for her sterling performance, in terms of glamorous roles and screen presence. Making a debut through a Malayalam film Manassinakkare a box-office hit, she was soon able to bag few major projects in all the Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam industry.
Her debut film in Kollywood was Ayya (2004), but Ghajini and Chandramukhi that were released in 2005 made her the most wanted heroine for all the directors and producers. Her debut in Tollywood in 2006 was with Venkatesh in a commercial flick, Lakshmi which was a biggest hit of that year. Consecutively she made films with all the leading actors in various industries. Her notable films include Boss with Akkineni Nagarjuna, Dubai Seenu with Ravi Teja, and Yogi with Prabhas.
In 2010, all her releases, which featured her as the female lead, turned out to be commercial successes. She delivered five super hit films in the four Southern languages – Bodyguard (Malayalam), Adurs and Simha (Telugu), Boss Engira Bhaskaran (Tamil) and Super (Kannada). She has also won the Asianet Award for the best Actress for Bodyguard. She also starred in Shyamaprasad's critically acclaimed Malayalam film Elektra. Her performance was well appreciated by critics when it was screened at the International Film Festival of India. The film was also screened at the Dubai International Film Festival.
Her only release in 2011 was Bapu's Sri Rama Rajyam in which she was casted for the mythological character Sita. Despite unleashing grace, her performance was well applauded winning her the Filmfare Award for the best Actress. Nayanathara is now part of three big budget projects in Tollywood – Love Story with Nagarjuna, Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum directed by Krish and Gopichand's Tamil venture Jagan Mohan IPS.
